Discrimination in goods and services

Birmingham Law Centre provides advice on discrimination in the provision of goods, facilities and services to people who believe they have been treated less favourably than other customers or service users because of a ‘protected characteristic’.  In a limited number of cases we may be able to assist with representation.

Protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010 are –

·  Age
·  Disability
·  Gender reassignment
·  Marriage and civil partnership
·  Pregnancy and maternity
·  Race
·  Religion and belief
·  Sex
·  Sexual orientation

Private and public providers are covered by the Act.  The Equality and Human Rights Commission provides general information on their Web site –
http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/advice-and-guidance/guidance-for-service-users/

We can advise on issues of discrimination, harassment and victimisation which may be unlawful under the Equality Act and what action may be taken to remedy it.  We can also provide advice with regard to the Human Rights Act 1998, which provides rights and protections in relation to the actions of public authorities.  If you feel that you may have been discriminated against, and you live in the Birmingham area, please email admin@birminghamlawcentre.org.uk. We will either advise you over the 'phone or email, or offer you an appointment.
